Second Blog Post

TV here again, and today we are going to talk about Interest Groups. by definition, an interest group is an organization of people with similar goals. To be more clear it is a group of people who have similar beliefs (politically), that influence the government and the people. Interest groups can vary from what they want, how many members are involved, and if they want economic gains or non-economic gains. An interest group that focuses on economic growth are influenced heavily by money, while non-economic gains are compensation for emotional trauma.

Interest Groups as previously stated influence our politics tremendously. One way interest groups influence politicians is by lobbying the government. Lobbying government is attempting to influence legislators and officials to lean more on the interest groups ideas and beliefs. Another way that they influence politics is hiring representatives in order to advocate for the interest group. With these tactics, interest groups are able to get their opinions heard and move forward in their plans/actions.

There are thousands of interest groups, but not all are known about on a national scale. When an interest group has either a lot of money or members (sometimes both), they are able to have more of an effect on politics. The reason for this is because with more money they can have more adds/campaigning for what they want, also if they want to hire a representative. If they have an abundance of people then they have more of a vote, since the government should be giving the people what they want. One interest group that is nationally recognized is the Planned Parenthood, Action Fund.

The Planned Parenthood action fund is a liberal interest group that is advocating for women to keep the right to choose what they do with their body. Planned Parenthood wants it to be legal for women to have abortions, birth control, safe sex etc. Immediately when clicking on to their website a pop up happens to ask to donate to them (tying back into the money aspect of interest groups.) The Planned Parenthood action fund wants to have safe options for women and does not want the government to rule against Roe V Wade.

Some ways that Planned Parenthood is influencing the government is by protesting against laws preventing the people of their choice to do with their own body. On their website, they have a video that is titledWe Marched. We voted. We Won "
the video highlights march on the capital, cities, schools etc. This shows people the thousands and millions of people who are standing with Planned Parenthood. The "we won" part of the video shows how the tactics Planned Parenthood is doing, is working. Protesting and showing that they are frustrated with being threatened about their choice for their body. The video ignites pathos within the watcher, making them first upset about the laws being threatened, then ending with happiness because they won the fight. Using that technique draws a viewer to want to side with Planned Parenthood because they paint themselves as a hero. Who does not want to support the hero? They also show people speaking to the crowds within the video. There is not much context to the people speaking but we can infer two things, that they are a representative for Planned Parenthood, or they could be the CEO of Planned Parenthood. It shows us that someone who is important believes in Pro-Choice. The point of view for the page and the video is through the lens of a feminist, we can see from their page that they are fighting for equality between the genders.

Once again going through the website there is a lot of text that goes against "Trumps Agenda," this gets straight to the point that this organization is against Trump-Pence policies. Although there are facts on the website there are limitations with it being a liberal website. We don't get to see the conservative perspective, which does not give us the full picture. For many organizations, they lack in point of view of the opposing "team"

Adding on to what I was previously saying Planned Parenthood expressive dislike against Trump and Pe-
nce tells the reader immediately that they have a Liberal perspective. We know that liberals usually want
the government to protect the citizens, and are typically pro lives. With the headline "Trump and his
administration want you boss to decide whether your birth control is covered." Has a negative tone towards
Trump, since America is built on freedoms and how the people are supposed to have basic health
needs met this challenges what the president job is to do, protect the people.

Planned Parenthood wants people to see how millions of women use birth control, and how this law
would negatively impact women in America. The purpose of this article is to persuade people to join
Planned Parenthood in apposing Trump and his administration.

Logos is used in this article to persuade the reader that lots of women use birth control, the people in
America want birth control to be accessible to all.
